Is Spring a Good Time to Buy a Home in Alberta?

Every spring the same question lands in my inbox: is now a good time to buy? Here's my honest answer for 2026 - for a lot of people in Calgary, Okotoks and High River, yes, and here's why.

Rates have settled. The Bank of Canada has held steady for months, which means the wild swings we all got used to have calmed down. Steady is good - you can actually plan around it. And spring is when more homes hit the market, so you've got more to choose from than you did over the winter.

But here's the part most people get backwards: they go shopping first and get their financing sorted later. Do it the other way around.

Get pre-approved before you fall in love with a place. It tells you your real budget, locks a rate for up to 120 days while you shop, and makes your offer stronger when you're up against other buyers.
